Customers often ask me, "What is the point of a virus?"  I have found that many people believe the mission is to be a nuisance, or viruses are made by kids in their free time.  A modern prank of sorts.

The cold truth is unfortunately quite the contrary.  Viruses and malware may be annoying to you on the surface, but are much more malicious in their intent.  The bad intentions reach beyond the deletion of your files, or stopping your computer from running properly.

Viruses and malware are used in large part to monitor your activity, log what you do, steal the information you key into your computer (credit card numbers, social security numbers, online banking passwords), and send the information over the Internet to the hacker who created the virus.

That's right, viruses are made by hackers.  In addition to the aforementioned processes a virus engages in, they also give hackers straight up remote access to your computer, to take what they want, as well as even watch what you are doing in real time.

In some cases a virus and/or hacker will use your computer to commit cyber crimes and attacks on others people's computers on the Internet.  Your computer could actually be committing crimes on "auto-pilot", without your knowledge, and be what is referred to as a zombie.

One of the most common types of malware I see currently are trojan viruses, which try to pose as legitimate anti-virus software warning you of viruses and threats to your computer.  These "Fake Alert" viruses will ask the user for credit card information to purchase the solution to the problem.  The hacker then sells you more viruses, and also has your credit card and billing information.

Sometimes hackers will immediately use the information they steal, and other times they sit on it.  A hacker will use black market underground chat rooms, to trade or sell your information to other cyber criminals.

The good news is, most popular viruses make themselves known by slowing down your computer's performance, generating pop ups, etc.  However the most dangerous type of malware is the kind you never suspect is on your computer, laying low, keeping stealth, watching, logging, stealing.

The long awaited moment of having the iPhone available on a provider other than AT&T is finally here.  This has been a much anticipated joinder for at least a couple of years.  I personally will not be joining in the festivities any time soon, as I am locked into multiple Sprint contracts, as well as being an Android enthusiast.  Until the day Apple decides it's in their best interest to sell the iPhone to everyone, I will be sorting out the issues with my mobile platform beneath the glow of a green robot, as it laughs at me from high atop the Google cloud.

Anyway, back to the new iPhone and Verizon team.  To most it would seem like a positive move to allow a larger percentage of people enjoy such a revolutionary piece of technological history.  However if you listened to the commentary on the news and other sources, you would think Apple and Verizon were selling you a knock off out of the trunk of a car.  The most popular mantra from the naysayers being, "You won't be able to talk on the phone and access data services at the same time with the iPhone on the Verizon Network."  Yea and, so what?  The majority of people using the iPhone on Verizon will be using the iPhone for the first time, and won't be AT&T customers.  For the most part they will either be current Verizon subscribers, or former Sprint customers making the switch to get their hands on the gadget.  Neither Sprint or Verizon offer the ability to use voice and data at the same time, so they won't know the difference.

The other part to the negative wave of commentary is the lack of 4G with the iPhone version being released on Verizon.  This argument actually holds a little water, but is still not enough to turn this move into a flop.  I contend that most people have yet to really get a taste of 4G, and the allure of the iPhone alone is enough to make anyone currently using 4G accept this shortcoming.  Furthermore, as with most things in technology, the upgrade will soon be here.  The biggest piece of the puzzle is in place.  Getting Apple to broaden it's mobile horizons is what matters most, and hopefully the increased competition will help motivate Google to keep improving their platform.  So go, run iPhone newbs, run to the light.

JamKo Force Networks is volunteering owner, Jim Kockler, for the Wine Women and Shoes event, benefiting the Cancer Alliance of Naples.  This year's event will be held on January 27th 2010, at the Naples Hilton, from 6-10pm.  Jim is happy to volunteer his time for worthy causes, especially those which help to alleviate suffering in the lives of children.  JamKo was asked to be a part of the event by multiple Naples Florida based customers who are involved in the event planning.

I recently noticed excessively slow speeds at which my website was loading.  I first looked at my site for any problems with plugins, or image sizes.  After testing from multiple computers, and multiple Internet connections, I decided to get in touch with my hosting provider, GoDaddy.com.

My thinking at this point was GoDaddy must be having a problem with the server my website is hosted on, or possibly a load balancer was down.  The representative took some time to run some tests, and reported back that there was not a problem with the server my site is on.  If you are unfamiliar with how most low cost web hosting works, a website usually resides on a single server computer that is shared with a number of other websites.  If one site on the server happens to be a resource hog, then you may notice problems with your website's performance.

The representative mentioned that I was still on their old hosting plan, economy hosting, and asked if I knew about their new grid hosting plan.  Of course, I assumed this would cost more, but to my surprise the change over is free of charge.  Grid Hosting is Godaddy's new hosting plan which is replacing economy shared hosting.  Your website is still on a shared server, but they employ better load balancing techniques, as well as monitor for any resource problems caused by neighboring websites on the server.  As if the rep really had to ask me to switch to better technology at no charge!

Well after switching to the new grid hosting plan, my website is loading faster than ever, and am happy to know I won't have to rebuild it.  If your website is on a shared GoDaddy server, I highly recommend that you verify you are on their new grid hosting plan.

JamKo has been saving businesses money on their computer and network IT support for many years now.  Our rates are extremely competitive compared to the competition, but it is our quality of service that reigns supreme.  Computer network administration, requires a wealth of experience, and a natural ability to solve problems.  JamKo brings both attributes to the table, and consistently out performs the competition.

We often hear from new customers that a big problem with previous IT companies was lack of communication between technicians sent out to resolve issues.  The customer would see multiple techs arrive at their office at different times, and usually the current technician possessed zero knowledge of what was done previously.  This type of lackadaisical support is common place in the computer industry, and unacceptable by JamKo Force Networks' standards.  In these sub-par scenarios, the client usually ends up paying double the cost and suffers additional revenue loss due to down time, compared to what they would pay if a competent organization was handling their needs.

Another big complaint we hear from customers about previous computer companies, is an inability to think in the pocket on the part of the technicians.  Problem solving ability is just as important of a skill in the technology field as any other skill, if not the most important!  A tech could have every computer, network, and technology certification / degree known to man, but be completely useless in real world scenarios.  To an extent, problem solving ability can be learned through experience, but for the most part is something you are either born with, or you're not.  It does not matter how much data you can absorb and regurgitate on paper, if you are unable to apply your knowledge, it's useless in the IT consulting industry.

Bloviating about what we do better than other computer support companies is not something we like to do, however it is necessary to outline how we stand out.  JamKo's experience in multiple technology platforms keeps us on the cutting edge, which equates to better support and cost savings for our customers.  The owner of JamKo Force Networks, Jim Kockler, is actively involved in the support process.  He is well versed in Windows, Linux, and Macintosh platforms, as well as powerful open source applications.  Jim has advanced and in depth knowledge, stemming from many years working on the advanced networking concepts that are required to own and operate an IT Firm, and a Telephone Company.

Jim is responsible for the design of JamKo's self healing VoIP Telephone Service infrastructure, with geographic redundancy, providing the highest quality VoIP Phone Service to our customers.  If you are looking for a VoIP provider in swfl, or a new phone company in Fort Myers, Lehigh Acres, Cape Coral, Naples, New Jersey, New York City, North New Jersey, or any other part of the world, contact us today for a quote on service!

However you decide to proceed with your IT support needs, we appreciate you taking the time to stop by our website.  We hope you learned something about JamKo, and do not hesitate to contact us with any and all inquiries.  We look forward to doing business with all of you in the future, and thank you to all of our loyal customers!
